Signs That It’s Time to Replace Siding

In a state like Colorado where all four seasons are experienced to the fullest, homes can often take a big toll. Roofs and windows are critical, but the siding on a home is also aesthetically important while serving an important function. Visible Damage

Experts suggest that even very small holes in siding should be cause for serious concern. As opposed to other visible types of damage, round holes are usually the work of insects. Consider a replacement as soon as bugs start to make a home their home, too. Broken or cracked pieces of siding are actually not as large of a cause for concern as individual pieces can be replaced on a piece-by-piece basis. If entire sections of siding begin to crack, though, a larger problem is underway. 

Rot and Mold

When pieces of siding are visibly warped, there are a couple of different things that could be happening: first, the siding piece itself could be warping. Secondly, though, water could have collected between pieces and caused a more significant rot. Rot is a confirmed indicator that it is time to replace siding. Similarly, mold and fungus could either be a surface-level issue or an indication of something more sinister. As siding is designed intentionally for the purpose of keeping water away from walls, all of these factors typically indicate a failing on some level. 

Color Issues

If siding has started to visibly fade, this is the first sign that the same waterproofing function is not operating at capacity. Similarly, if a home has had to be repainted with noticeable frequency over a series of a few years, it is likely a sign of trouble. Great siding should be able to retain its color for nearly a decade. If any of these issues are occurring, it may be time to replace home siding.
